Milestones in the life of a small business in this crazy economy are sort of funny. Overcoming adversity is a milestone worth celebrating!!

After a month of shopping cart challenges, Rooted Radiance is able to take online orders again.

The site looks different in the short term, so that we can get back to bringing you healthy beauty products. The page is a new work in progress but will be better able to serve the needs of Rooted Radiance and customers.

Check out the site, let me know any feedback and I’ll keep you posted on the great new products coming your way.

In happiness and health!!

I love easy solutions and I love when my skin care products multitask.

I, for one, can’t stand having to use moisturizer and then when I am about to head outside, add a sunscreen to protect my skin from UV exposure. It feels redundant and often feels like there’s too much ‘stuff’ on my skin.

It took me long enough to get into the habit of using moisturizer in the first place, and then to have to add another face product, really seemed excessive (and often I’d forego the sun protection, which is not recommended)

So, luckily I have found a product that does both, saves me a step in my day AND feels light on my face. PLUS, it contains a dozen organic botanicals that help keep my skin healthy. COOLA Face SPF 30 in Cucumber or Unscented is a great addition to your skin care regimen.

Try it and save your skin and save yourself some time. Your face will look and feel great!

The Environmental Protection Agency, which I rarely think of as fun, has a fun project going on that started out as an Earth Day campaign and has been extended.

It involves making a 10-15 second video showing some way that you take care of the environment. The EPA will add clips to the rolling video on their site on a regular basis throughout the year. It can be a great idea for your school or office.

Check out the It’s My Environment Video Project. Watch the sample video and get some ideas!

Rooted Radiance is now on Twitter!!

With the arrival of May we have Mothers’ Day and the spring wedding season.

Here’s a  helpful, easy list from E magazine called Hosting a Great Green Wedding for greening your celebrations. This is a great idea for other events as well, like birthday parties, family gatherings, etc.

Check it out – and pass it along to your friends and family involved in weddings this season.

Happy Spring! Enjoy the flowers!

You may have already started a list of chemicals and ingredients to avoid in your personal care products,  but if you haven’t here’s is a good resource that provides a list for you.

We’d love it if you always shop Rooted Radiance where we are doing the homework for you, but we know we’re still building up our offerings and don’t have everything you’re looking for – yet.

In the meantime the Environmental Working Group, which does great work checking products for safety, has a Cosmetics Guide that folds and fits nicely in your pocket to remind you of ingredients to avoid when purchasing cosmetics and personal care products.

Enjoy the spring weather and let us know about healthy products you are looking for -

Check out today’s great post on The Daily Green that provides 10 simple ways to make your beauty routine healthier. Sure there’s lots to think about, but there’s also quite a lot you can do.

One of my favorites is Tip #4, “Ignore the Marketing Claims, Look at the Label”. No matter where you are buying your beauty products, it is key that you know what you’re exposing yourself to.

Even a little change can make a difference. Congrats if you’re already making healthy choices, keep up the good work!

For products that you can trust to be healthy, check out Rooted Radiance! We’re working to make it easier for you to make healthy choices.

Have a healthy day!

Think Cinnamon.

The scent of cinnamon makes us want to find the source. Cinnamon has been used medicinally for centuries, researched during the past century and found to have many healthful properties. Along with it’s power to enhance the average apple pie and make a morning pastry divine, cinnamon has been known to ease digestion and reduce arthritis symptoms among its many healing properties.

Some sources suspect that eating cinnamon can help diabetics metabolize glucose more easily. Other sources indicate that smelling cinnamon helps stimulate brain function and memory. Who among us couldn’t use that?

So, to help you take care of your sweetie or yourself on Valentine’s Day, Rooted Radiance will give you free shipping on any order that includes a Cinnamon scented item, such as Plum Island Hand Butter, Plum Island Shower Gel and Plum Island Body Oil (great for a massage!).

Just use promo code CNMN at checkout for free ground shipping! Offer ends February 14th.

Have a spicy Valentine’s Day!!

Gratitude

For life, for family, for a beautiful earth and the wonder of a new day, there are many reasons for gratitude.

Though every day provides a reason to be thankful, this is the week when we collectively take the time, make the pies and share the meals. I spent time with some 1st graders today who expressed being grateful for everything from their moms to their legos. It was quite moving to hear the joy in their voices. I hope you all get the chance to hear a child state what she or he is thankful for – it contains a sweetness beyond measure.

Rooted Radiance wishes everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday, whether you have the day off or not, whether you are spending it with your favorite people or not, whether you are eating turkey or not. That the day has come for you and that you are healthy enough or blessed enough to be reading these words, you have something to be grateful for.

This holiday may you and yours be safe and healthy.

Happy Thanksgiving from Rooted Radiance.

Best,

Liana

Enjoy November!

With Halloween now behind us and the candy tempting us at home and at the office, it can be easy to grab a candy as if it were a dose of self-care and be on our way.  I love a Snickers bar as well as the next woman, but it’s no substitute for taking care, breathing deeply and adjusting the pace.

It’s good to remember to enjoy the moment. The next few months are filled with family, friends, parties and good food. That’s all good and will sweep us up in its excitement.

But here in early November, as you move through your days, be sure to pay attention to the changing light as the days grow darker, the last of the leaves hanging onto the trees and the sounds of dry leaves underfoot. In my neighbor’s yard, the yellow leaves of her Gingko tree are brightening up the gray, fall days and I love to peek out the window to enjoy them.

Be sure not to get so caught up in the busy season to come that you miss the time that’s here. Take time for yourself, take time for your health. Breathe.

Best,

Liana
